For millions of Indian, securing a government job is a dream. Since the time Indian economy welcomed private investments, the number of governmental jobs has drastically decreased. Special Exams
In order to be able to get a job on the civil services of the central government, such as to join foreign office, ministries or national railways, you will have to first take a special exam prepared by an agency called Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This exam is believed to be one of the toughest ones and candidates need to prepare for it rigorously. Many candidates appear for the exam more than once. According to the annual report submitted by UPSC, out of the million students who gave the exam, only 7000 were able to pass. Apart from central government jobs, students can also apply for state government jobs. There may or may not be state exam for the same; depending on the state and its rules. Separate exams maybe carried out for defense forces.
Searching for Jobs
As mentioned earlier, it is difficult to find a job in the government sector as there are any applicants. However, many times even when there are vacancies, many people are not aware about them and therefore lose out on a good opportunity. There are a few ways to find out the list of latest govt jobs in India
· Newspapers: Most governmental jobs are advertised in the national newspapers in both English as well as other regional languages, including Hindi. This helps to spread the word about job opening even in those areas which does not have easy internet access.
· Government Sites: State government has their own websites where they advertise about the latest job openings in the government sector. On these sites you will find instructions regarding the available jobs, the minimum criteria for application, application process and last date of application. It is a great way to gather information regarding the available governmental jobs.
· Job Portals: There are many online job portals that are dedicated to finding government posts that are available across India. Such portals list out all the available government jobs and what their requirements are. You can even conduct a search based on the state you wish to acquire a job. These sites are a great medium to get access to a number of jobs available not just in your state but anywhere in India, wherein you can pursue it if you fit the requirements.
Job Security
One of the greatest perks of government jobs is the job security that comes with it. Most government employees are not removed from their post for years to come and even after retirement, you are eligible for pension that amounts to 50% of your last drawn salary.
